John Downey is a Ph.D. Candidate in the department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. John received his Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 2010 before coming to Pittsburgh.
Research Interest Summary
neuroprostheses, intracortical brain-computer interface, electrophysiology
Research Interests
John Downey’s primary research interest is in using intracortical electrical recordings to allow people with tetraplegia to control prosthetic robotic arms. He works to make the control precise and robust in a variety of conditions so that users can eventually use these arms to interact with the world around them and restore their independence.
