Evaluation of an Implantable Intramuscular Device to Control a Myoelectric Prosthesis

FDA-approved Device Study: MIRA, Myoelectric Implantable Recording Array

Study Summary:

Five individuals with transradial amputation will be implanted with MIRA for one year (± 30 days). Study participants will learn to control a myoelectric prosthesis using muscle activity recorded from electrodes implanted in the muscles of the residual limb. The data collected will support our hypothesis that EMG signals can be recorded and transmitted wirelessly in order to provide control of prosthetic hand and wrist functions. You will be compensated for your time and travel for study visits.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Amputation of one hand/arm below elbow
• More than 1 year after amputation
• Ages 22-70
• No serious disease that would affect participation
• There are additional criteria to meet for inclusion.
